Ushers have an important role in the life of the Church of the Redeemer. Service as an Usher is a special opportunity to offer your time, interest, and support to our congregation’s weekly worship. Each usher typically serves six to eight Sundays during the church year. The schedule is made before the start of the first and second halves of the liturgical year. The monthly church bulletin also has the ushers schedule for that month. The most important duty of ushers is to bid a warm welcome to those coming to our church, especially our newcomers. An usher is often the first person a newcomer meets and it is therefore especially important to be interested, helpful and caring. The basic duties of the usher include assisting people with seating, taking up the collection at the Offertory, and releasing people in pews at the Communion. Ushers
also have an important role in assuring the safety and comfort of our
parishioners during church services. These duties range from assisting
people to the pews to knowing the location of emergency medical equipment
kept at the church. Although not mandatory,
ushers are encouraged to get certified in performing CPR and using the
church's automated external defibrillator. Such courses are
available at the church. All members of the congregation are welcome to become an usher. If you are interested in becoming an usher, or have any questions, please contact David Brewster.
