Seeking Service Assistants

for 2010-11

If you are interested in serving as a new Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Acolyte, Server, or Usher, please contact the office by mid-June and we will send you a fall scheduling card.  Training is required for Acolytes, Servers, Lectors, and Lay Eucharistic Ministers. Instructions are available for ushers.

If you have any questions about the responsibilities of these positions, please feel free to contact an active service assistant, Dorsey, or our verger, Suzy Westcott.

Can you volunteer for the St. Stephen’s B-SAFE Summer Camp?

The Church of the Redeemer will be responsible for 2 days of lunches for the training week for the St. Stephen’s B-SAFE Summer Camp (for low income inner city children in Boston). We need Redeemer volunteers to help serve the lunches. The details are as follows:

Dates for which we need volunteers: Tuesday, June 29th and Wednesday, June 30th

Volunteering choices:

*Help serve lunch at Epiphany School on either June 29th or June 30th from 10:45am – 1:30pm.

*Prepare a lasagna at home and bring it into the Redeemer (to be served at Epiphany for the B-SAFE training week).

*In lieu of cooking or volunteering, you could contribute a check. We will use the funds to purchase lasagnas that we will be serving   during the training week. Please send your checks to the Redeemer, made out to the Church of the Redeemer and put B-SAFE in the memo section of your check.

We have assembled a group of 3-4 Redeemer parishioners who will be coordinating and organizing this effort. Now we need volunteers to offer to help serve the lunches for a few hours on either Tuesday June 29th or Wednesday June 30th.  This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for families as older children and teens are most welcome to help in this endeavor.  If you are interested in helping please contact Laura Patton (laurated@rcn.com) or 617-232-5175.

Brief Summary of B-SAFE:

B-SAFE is the Bishop’s Summer Academics, Fun and Enrichment (B-SAFE) program.  Now in its 11th year, the B-SAFE program will offer full day programming (summer enrichment camp) at 6 sites in Chelsea and Boston for six weeks this summer.   The program will serve more than 500 low income children and teens.  Most of these children and teens live in Boston's most violent neighborhoods, and perhaps the most important aspect of B-SAFE is simply providing a physically and emotionally safe place to be during the long summer days.
