The Nominating committee submits the following slate of nominees for the election of lay leadership at the Annual Meeting on February 7,  2010:

 

 

 

 

Katie McEachern

4-year Vestry term

 

        I have been a member of the Church of the Redeemer for ten years and have loved every minute if it. My involvement has included: Publicity Chair for the Christmas Market, Church School teacher, member of the Church Service League, Stewardship Captain and member of the Vestry. I have also been involved with the Foyers dinner group, and many fellowship events. 

       I am married to Duncan McEachern and have two children, John and Sarah. We live in West Newton and are involved in various ways at our children’s neighborhood school. My children sing in the Redeemer Children’s Choir which they enjoy and they have been involved with many of the children’s fellowship programs that have been offered, including children’s liturgies, family events and Children’s Chapel. 

       Professionally, I run marketing operations for Progress Software Corporation in Bedford, MA. My hobbies include playing the piano and reading, as well as skiing, swimming, and playing tennis.  I am honored to serve on the Vestry.

 

Martha Gangemi

4-year Vestry term

 

      Michael, our three children and I joined the Redeemer in 2005, soon after moving to West Newton from a five-year adventure in London. The kids, Michael (17), Lyle (16) and Julia (13) have all served as acolytes and servers and have been (or are being) confirmed at the Redeemer. I have served as a greeter, fellowship co-chair, shepherd, co-chair of the Christmas Market, both on the Greens committee and as the Vendor chair.

        I earned a BA and an MBA from the University of Virginia, and worked in finance at Bankers Trust and Aldrich Eastman and Waltch before taking some time off to raise our children. “Some time off” shockingly turned into sixteen years. I volunteer at my children’s schools in many ways, and set up and institutionalized an annual service learning day for the lower school at Winsor. I am a project manager for Community Consulting Teams, and a landscape designer trained at the Radcliffe/ Harvard/ BAC program. I play tennis, ride horses when I get the chance and am a certified vinyasa yoga teacher. I grew up in Atlanta and Virginia, and go back to warm up as often as possible.

 

Gordon Cromwell

4 -Year  Vestry term

       Gordon and his wife, Wendy, joined the Redeemer in 2006 when they moved from the South End to Chestnut Hill.  They have a daughter and a son, Caroline age 6, and Gordie age 3.  Gordon grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Denison University in Ohio.  He and Wendy met as classmates in business school at Vanderbilt University graduating in 1995.  Gordon has spent his career in the investment banking/management industry working for 13 years at Canaccord Adams and for the past 2 years as an equity analyst with Turner Investment Partners.  He enjoys fishing, tennis, golf, and squash.

 

Douglas Chope,

Vestry term

  

      Douglas is married to Teresa and has three children, Clasby (11), Ford (9) and Sallie (7), all of whom are very active at Redeemer including the Church School Program and Youth Choir. Since Douglas joined the church back in 1991 he has served on various committees, assisted with Stewardship and co-led the Fellowship committee.

       Douglas is a Director of Product Management at MicroStrategy; with responsibility for future software product direction. Douglas is active with Tenacity, an organization to improve the scholastic, character and physical development of urban youth, and serves on the Board at the Brookline Music School among other community involvement.

      Douglas’ passion is coaching his children’s sports including soccer and baseball. Additionally, Douglas enjoys travel, reading, tennis and competitive running.

Megan Sampson,

         My husband Chris and I joined the Redeemer 18 years ago. Our three children were baptized at the Redeemer and all have served as acolytes and servers as well as Youth Assistants. Chris is an usher and I am on the Altar Guild. 

 

Arthur Pfaelzer

Diocesan Delegate

       I am very pleased to be selected to be one of the Diocesan delegates in 2010.I attended as a substitute delegate at the convention in 2009 at Trinity Church in Boston and found it very educational.

      I grew up in Brookline and attended Trinity Church with my family for many years. My father was assistant Treasurer during the time when the Reverend Theodore Ferris was Rector.  I was married to my first wife, Francoise, at the Church of the Redeemer in 1963.We had two children Christine and Diane.  They are now both married and now I am blessed with five grandchildren by Christine. After Francoise passed away I met Carol Post and we were married in 1998 also in the Church of the Redeemer.

    I started my own electronic manufacturing company, Intronics, in 1965, and recently sold it this past year. Currently I am ‘retired’ but looking for new opportunities in electronics. My present task at home is taking care of our four dachshunds and trying to learn how to play the violin-a somewhat daunting task.

  

Starr Peteet

      Starr joined the Redeemer in 2007 with her husband Josh. Both attended other Episcopal Churches around Boston as children, but they fell in love with the Redeemer from the moment they first visited. Her favorite involvement at the Redeemer has been helping teach last year’s confirmation class.

      In 2002, Starr helped found Boston Trinity Academy, a faith-based urban independent school designed to be as rigorous as the best prep schools while also accessible to students from every socioeconomic background. Starr also serves as a trustee for Noble and Greenough School and Camp Jabberwocky on Martha’s Vineyard.

 

George Raine

       George Raine has been a member of the parish since 2007 and has served as a shepherd for the stewardship campaign. 

       George is a partner at the law firm Ropes & Gray, where he specializes in securities law and investment management regulatory matters. He received his undergraduate degree in history and his law degree from Yale, as well as a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the Humboldt Universitaet in Berlin.

         He is married to Fernande Raine, and together they are doing their best to raise four daughters, Eleanor, Charlotte, Martha, and Louisa (Lulu), aged six years down to six months. German is the official language of the Raine household, though often resolve falls short of intention in avoiding the vernacular.

         In what passes for spare time, George enjoys (though does not excel in) squash, rowing, cycling, classical clarinet, and recreational philology.

 

David Walker,

          David, his wife Lisa, and their daughters Nina (18) and Electra (13) have been coming to the Redeemer since 2002. David has served as a neighborhood stewardship captain since 2008. Lisa has previously served as co-chair of the Christmas Market auction.

          David has spent 26 years in the investment management business and he is currently a portfolio manager with Cambridge Trust. David is President of the board of trustees of the Vincent Memorial Hospital and he has previously held leadership positions with the Long Island, New York chapter of The Nature Conservancy and the Alumni Association of the Hotchkiss School. 

         In his free time, David enjoys hiking, reading, fishing and golf.

 

Michael Aylward

Deanery Representative

  

       Michael F. Aylward married into the Redeemer in 1990 when he wed Deborah Ritter, whose family had been lifelong members of the parish.  He was initially drawn into the Redeemer’s Outreach ministry and spent more than a decade as the chair of the Outreach Committee.  During this time, he also spent a term on the Vestry and performed the vital role of selling and delivering Christmas trees at the Redeemer’s annual December market.  More recently, he has been called back to service as chair of the Building Committee.

       Michael is a lawyer by trade and a chef and gardener by avocation.   He was born in Hong Kong to Foreign Service parents and spent most of his life in Washington, D.C.  Following graduation from Dartmouth he worked on Capitol Hill to a U.S. Senator and acquired a life-long interest in politics and environmental affairs.   For the past three decades, he has advised insurance company on liability risk issues and has represented carriers around the country in litigation over their contractual obligations.

 

Alyson Lee

Deanery Representative

  

               I have been a member of the Redeemer for 21 years - I’ve worked in the Church School, on the Christmas Market, and as a Lector.  I am currently a Diocesan Delegate and on the Altar Guild. 

       My three children, Charlotte, Margaret, and James were all baptized here, participated in Church School and proudly sang in the choir for many years.  I'm a graduate of Hamilton College, had my first career in Advertising in NYC and Boston, my second career at home with my kids, and am now in my third life, pursuing a career in Social Work.  In May of this year, I'll receive my Masters in Social Work from Boston College, and I've been pleased to work as a counselor at Dedham High School.  I am currently am a counselor at Westwood Lodge Psychiatric Hospital working with children and teens. 

        Best decision ever:  To join the Redeemer Mission Trip to Uganda last summer - Life Changing - in all the best possible ways!
