A Redeemer for the Light of the World

If you have not yet made your pledge for 2008, please do so at your earliest convenience so that the Vestry may set the budget for the coming year.  You may either mail in your pledge card or call the Financial Office (617-566-7679, ext. 12).  Many thanks for your prayerful consideration.

Family Mission Trip to New Orleans

I am delighted to report that the family mission trip to New Orleans is full!  (We will be starting a waiting list).  The Redeemer really has a heart for mission, and I am excited by the energy around the trip.  We will have a few preparation meetings designed to get to know our St. Stephen’s partners and learn more about New Orleans post-Katrina.  Missioners are also encouraged to help with the mission support events in the coming months.  Thank you all for your dedication and willingness to support mission work at the Redeemer.

Silent auction to benefit the mission trip

The Silent Auction that began at the New Orleans Bash will be continued for the next week, closing at 12:30 pm on Sunday, May 11th.  There are many wonderful items so please drop by during the week or bid next Sunday.  Absentee bids will be accepted.  Please call the office if you wish to make one (617-566-7679).

Christmas Market 2008

We are hoping to make this year’s Market and Auction as successful as the last!  There are many different roles that can fit different schedules -- from an hour free here and there to a more substantial involvement.  If you’re interested in helping out, please  join us for a meeting of interested volunteers on Tuesday, May 6 at 9:30, or contact the co-chairs, Lisa Farber (farmince@aol.com, 617- 738-1477) or Julia Woodard (jebillo@aol.com, 617-522-5021).

Committees include:  Food, Greens, Consignors, Auction, Baked Goods, Crafts, and more.

The Auction committee is looking for people with great ideas and energy.  If you are interested in participating, please come to a meeting on Monday, May 19 at 9:30, or contact Lisa Farber.  Remember, it’s never too early to donate!

 SAVE THE DATE!

June 2, 2008

The Church Service League is very fortunate to have Betsy McConnell as the speaker for our Annual Luncheon.  She will talk about her trip to Pilgrim Uganda, including her work with trauma survivors.

So save Monday June 2nd around noon in the Parish Hall for lunch and our speaker.  You are cordially invited; we hope you can attend.  You may sign up by e-mail (janebmetcalf@comcast.net) or on the sheet outside the Rector’s office.

Uganda Pen-Pal Project: Update and Reminder!

 Dear Redeemer Families,

So far we have matched more than 40 students at the Pilgrim-sponsored School in Uganda with Pen-Pals!  If you chose a student to write to, now is the time to send your letter off to Pilgrim's Seattle address!  A delegation will be leaving Seattle for Uganda on April 28 and would love to have your letters to hand out to the students when they arrive!  In case you have misplaced the address, it is:

Three Loaves Fund
ATTN: Jill Englehart
819 North 49th St, Mailbox #207
Seattle, WA 98103

We have 24 more Pen-Pal letters (all boys!) remaining, so please consider picking one up at the next coffee hour.  A simple letter from the U. S. would mean a lot to these amazing children, and can take as little as 10 minutes to write!  For more information, contact Leslie Williams, Leswill@gmail.com or 617-969-0470.  Thank you!!

Dear Friends,

I wanted to alert you to the next Spectrum Singers Concert at Emmanuel Church (15 Newbury Street between Arlington and Berkeley in Boston), 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17.  The program is a wonderfully wide range of works, all of them settings of the words of Shakespeare.  I really enjoy this repertoire.  The complete program list is at the end of this message.

Tickets (bought ahead from me) are discounted to be: $40, $32 or $15.  (Of course, if you can't plan ahead but want to come anyway, you're welcome to buy tickets at the door; the best seats will be a bit higher priced).

Leslie Horst (a member of our parish and choir)
