Weld House Garden Rejuvenation Project The Grounds Committee is very excited about a new plan for plantings at the back entrance of Weld House. As you may have noticed, a portion of the bed in front of the entrance was claimed last summer in order to expand the parking lot. In addition, the old plantings had become quite overgrown and ugly, and several of the yews could even be considered safety hazards (providing someone a place to hide). The new plan, which entails the planting of several pink flowering dogwood trees, a number of rhododendrons and hollies, and a border of boxwoods, should truly enhance the back entrance of our church building. It will be on exhibit in the parish hall in February (and possibly late January), at which time we are also hoping that parishioners will consider helping with the project by giving plants in memory of or in honor of their loved ones. While the Grounds Committee has some money in its budget for this project, there is not enough to fund it completely. Your gifts will help to make the garden a reality and will be a lasting tribute to those whom you cherish. Gifts can be made in varying amounts and will be greatly appreciated. |

Family Mission Trip to New OrleansFrom the Curate: The Church of the Redeemer will be heading to the Big Easy to partake in vital mission work in the devastated Gulf Coast region. I have been down to the Gulf Coast for a total of a month over three occasions since Katrina, and there is still an overwhelming amount of ministry to do in the area. The trip will begin on June 24th and we will be returning on July 2nd. I will talk about what we are planning for the trip, and share some of my own experiences of the Gulf Coast during a parish forum on Sunday, February 24th after the 10:30 Eucharist. This will be a family mission trip; children, teens, and adults are invited to come along. Young children can attend with their parents, and youth from the eighth grade up are encouraged to attend if their parents are able to come or not. Adults without children are also encouraged to come along. Those who are handy are especially needed, but this is not a requirement for participation. On the trip, we will be helping the people of the devastated 9th Ward in New Orleans rebuild their communities. Jobs range in difficulty from heavy construction to passing out food, and bringing water to neighbors and workers. Please let me know if you would like more information about the trip, and please join me on February 24th.

United Thank Offering
Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 The mission of the United Thank Offering (UTO) is to expand the circle of thankful people. When you give, you tell and show God that you are thankful. We encourage everyone to contribute to the UTO. Your offerings will be combined with the coins and dollars of children, adults and grandparents from the Church of the Redeemer and other congregations. Each year the gifts total nearly $3million and are given away in the form of grants to support important ministries in the USA and overseas as an outreach of the Episcopal Church. What kind of things does the UTO fund? · Refurbish a small church kitchen in Nebraska, enhancing service to the community through meals and a food bank · Support a summer urban youth camp serving disadvantaged youth in New Jersey · Grants to the Diocese of Louisiana for projects related to rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina · Fund motorcycles for clergy and lay workers engaged in ministry in distant places in Sri Lanka Please consider making an offering to support this worthwhile organization. Envelopes are available in the Narthex and will be handed out at the morning service on Sunday, March 2nd. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Linda Conway.

Celebrate this Easter with a Gift of Lilies Did you know that the beautiful Easter lilies which adorn the Church of the Redeemer at Easter are made possible by many financial donations from our Parishioners? Our Easter flower donations traditionally have been made as a lovely way to remember those who are special to us, but gifts may be made “in celebration of” an event or important milestone as well as “in honor of,” “in memory of,” or “in thanksgiving for” loved ones. The memorial notations for the Easter donations are recorded in calligraphy in The Book of Remembrance, on display in the Narthex throughout the year – a lovely reminder for all. Names which are received by April 4th will be printed in the Easter worship service leaflets. We suggest $50 for the first listing, $10 for each additional one, but, of course will welcome ANY AMOUNT. We hope that you will contribute to the glorious celebration of Easter at the Redeemer with a memorial gift. The results of your generosity will be enjoyed by all who visit us at Easter time. Thank you. Please provide the following information and return it either to the Church office or by mail to Mrs. Nina Moriarty, Treasurer of the Altar Guild, 214 Heath Street, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467. Designation: ___________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Donor Name(s): ______________________________________________ Daytime Telephone (____) ________________ Amount enclosed $ _____________

House Meetings Begin Please look for your invitation to the House Meetings that begin this month. These meetings are centered on building Family Ministry. We encourage everyone to participate. The meetings are a great way to meet your fellow parishioners and to share our stories. The experiences that we share will help us build a ministry in which we all can contribute and support. At the end of this round of House Meetings we will gather together as a parish community and discuss the results. From these follow-up meetings, our new family ministry will arise. The meetings will be fun and thought provoking. Please join us. Sunday, March 2 6:00 pm Gangemi Sunday, March 9 6:00 pm Grandin |

Lenten Series 2008What is sin? How can it be Good News? In these days of constant C-SPAN and MTV, how do I know what is right or wrong, and how right or wrong is it? What difference does a “small decision” make in my life, my work, the lives of my family and co-workers? Welcome to “The Seven Deadly Sins: a Consumer’s Guide”. The series will explore the spiritual, emotional, psychological and physiological ramifications of the seven great sins, and their corresponding virtues. Led by the Rector, the series will incorporate guest appearances by more than one expert in the field of sin, and will also use excerpts from film, literature, and music to explore the shadow and light of our common soul. Five Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall from February 13th through March 12th, 2008. |
