 Weld House Garden Rejuvenation Project

The Grounds Committee is very excited about a new plan for plantings at the back entrance of Weld House.  As you may have noticed, a portion of the bed in front of the entrance was claimed last summer in order to expand the parking lot.  In addition, the old plantings had become quite overgrown and ugly, and several of the yews could even be considered safety hazards (providing someone a place to hide).

The new plan, which entails the planting of several pink flowering dogwood trees, a number of rhododendrons and hollies, and a border of boxwoods, should truly enhance the back entrance of our church building.  It will be on exhibit in the parish hall in February (and possibly late January), at which time we are also hoping that parishioners will consider helping with the project by giving plants in memory of or in  honor of their loved ones.  While the Grounds Committee has some money in its budget for this project, there is not enough to fund it completely.  Your gifts will help to make the garden a reality and will be a lasting tribute to those whom you cherish.  Gifts can be made in varying amounts and will be greatly appreciated.

Message from the Church School

Dear Redeemer Families,

Happy New Year!

The Church School needs volunteers to teach.  We hope you can help us.

We have 3 teaching rotations planned between now and the end of the year:

(1)   Feb. 3, 10 and March 2 we will be studying  John 11:1-44….Raising Lazarus.

(2)   March 9, April 6 and April 13 we will be studying the Prodigal Son … Luke 15

(3)     April 20, May 4 and May 11 we will be studying Saul’s conversion…. Acts 9: 1-31

Each rotation requires 3 people to sign up for the entire 3-week rotation.  These teachers will be responsible for the same story all three weeks and each teacher will have the same story-related project to do all three weeks. They will stay in the same classroom all three weeks while the classes “rotate” through.  For example, they will teach the 2nd/3rd graders one-week, the 4th/5th graders the second week, and the 6th/7th graders the last week.  Slight adjustments might need to be made for different age groups, but the Bible story and the teaching-project will be the same all 3 weeks.

Please do not worry if you are not free any of these weeks or if you are otherwise already involved at the Redeemer in the church school or elsewhere.   We understand that teaching is not for everyone.  But we do need some help and we will be there to assist you all the way.  A week before each rotation starts, we will organize a Bible study to closely examine the story we are about to teach our children.  This has proven to be a great way to prep for the teaching assignments.

Volunteers of any age and both genders are welcome.

Please, pick up the phone and call us if you have any questions or if you just need a little encouragement.  Either Sarah or I or anybody on our church school committee would be happy to talk with you.

Bless you all and thanks for considering this request!

Faithfully yours,

Judy (617) 734-8841

Sarah (617) 383-5584.

House Meetings Begin

Please look for your invitation to the House Meetings that begin this month.  These meetings are centered on building Family Ministry.  We encourage everyone to participate.  The meetings are a great way to meet your fellow parishioners and to share our stories.  The experiences that we share will help us build a ministry in which we all can contribute and support.  At the end of this round of House Meetings we will gather together as a parish community and discuss the results.  From these follow-up meetings, our new family ministry will arise.  The meetings will be fun and thought provoking.  Please join us.

Lenten Series 2008

What is sin?  How can it be Good News?  In these days of constant C-SPAN and MTV, how do I know what is right or wrong, and how right or wrong is it?  What difference does a “small decision” make in my life, my work, the lives of my family and co-workers?

Welcome to “The Seven Deadly Sins: a Consumer’s Guide”. The series will explore the spiritual, emotional, psychological and physiological ramifications of the seven great sins, and their corresponding virtues.  Led by the Rector, the series will incorporate guest appearances by more than one expert in the field of sin, and will also use excerpts from film, literature, and music to explore the shadow and light of our common soul.  Five Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall from February 13th through March 12th, 2008.
