Make more Sense of your Life with What Jesus Meant
Led by the Reverend Dorsey McConnell
Garry Wills is a noted author, a professor emeritus of classics at Johns Hopkins, a thoughtful and faithful Christian, a fractious Catholic. In this book, Wills explores the biblical witness to Jesus, who Jesus is, what he said, and whether the Jesus of the Church is actually the “real” Jesus. At times humble and devout, at other times skeptical and irascible, Wills asks in a loud voice the sort of questions we might be embarrassed to admit we have asked ourselves!
In the course of six conversations we will engage Wills’ passionate confession, connect it more deeply to the Scriptures, and see how the provocative questions and answers he comes up with might help us all come to a deeper knowledge of the God who rejoices to live in our hearts, but will not be kept in a box. On the way we will also consider a few powerful examples of literature, music and film that will expand on Wills’ inquiry and perhaps open the way for our own encounter with the Lord of the Emmaus Road.
Books are available for sale in the office at the cost of $11. Childcare and a light lunch will be available throughout the course.
All classes begin at 11:55 a.m. in the back classroom.
October 7th - No Class (Columbus Day Weekend) October 14th - The Descent into Hell and the Death of God October 21st - Jesus and the Life of God October 28th - Conclusion: Joining Jesus on the Emmaus Road

Bible Study with the Rector
The Radiant World: Midweek Bible Studies for Ordinary Life
The Letter to the Hebrews is one of the most beautiful works of Western literature and among the most compelling books of the Bible. It has influenced all the Church’s greatest thinkers, and gives an astonishingly rich portrayal of the work of Jesus Christ and its relation to human affairs. Over coffee at the Rectory, we will explore the depth and power of this work, at the rate of about a chapter a week, showing its relation to other major texts of Scripture and classic sermons from Christian history, and mining it as a source of creative strength and encouragement for our own ordinary lives. Come, spend some time with a few fellow pilgrims, and fill the rest of your week with the grace of the Lord in the power of the Spirit.
Men’s Bible Study, Wednesdays, 7:00 am Women’s Bible Study, Thursdays, 9: 00 am
Both meet at the Rectory, 381 Hammond Street. |

The Fellowship Committee is pleased to introduce FOYERS 2007 We invite you to join in this opportunity to meet some of the wonderful new people in the parish, to stay in touch with old friends, and strengthen the bonds that make being a member of the Church of the Redeemer so special. Sign up today to join in the fun! The Fellowship Committee will do the rest to put together all the participants into groups of 8-10 people. The groups meet 3 to 4 times a year for a low key pot-luck supper rotating between different people’s homes. Each group will have a Captain to keep things organized. We hope you will take part of this special Redeemer tradition...ask anyone who has participated in Foyers in the past…and you’ll find what fun it can be. Sign up by Wednesday, October 3rd! Call the Redeemer Church Office at 617 566-7679 (office@redeemerchestnuthill.org) or sign up on the table outside the Church Office. For more information, please call Martha Gangemi at 617-795-7240 (magangemi@rcn.com) or Teresa Chope at 617-734-3103 (teresachope@aol.com) |

CONCERT SERIES 2007-2008
Our own Keisuke Wakao, oboist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is arranging for three concerts to be held at the Church of the Redeemer this year. These will be with a variety of professional musicians of the highest caliber and each concert will be followed by a reception. One will be in November, one in January and another in April. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear fabulous music and to invite friends and neighbors to visit our parish.
Please consider being a sponsor to help underwrite the costs of these events. For a minimum donation of $150, sponsors will receive two tickets to a concert of their choice in addition to an invitation for two to a special cocktail party with Keisuke on October 15th where he will be accessible for conversation and, accompanied by a pianist, will play the oboe in a mini-performance.
Additional advanced tickets for each concert are available at $20 each. Tickets at the door will be $25.
More information will be forthcoming. Please call the church office if you would like to purchase tickets or be a sponsor. Forms are also available on the table outside the office.
