This team would also explore ways to improve communication and collaboration in our church community with the use of technologies such as our website, email lists, online calendar, etc. If you or someone you know is interested in supporting technology for a “higher purpose", please contact Erik Britt-Webb at 617-899-6023 or erik@britt-webb.net. |

Make more Sense of your Life with What Jesus Meant
Led by the Reverend Dorsey McConnell
Garry Wills is a noted author, a professor emeritus of classics at Johns Hopkins, a thoughtful and faithful Christian, a fractious Catholic. In this book, Wills explores the biblical witness to Jesus, who Jesus is, what he said, and whether the Jesus of the Church is actually the “real” Jesus. At times humble and devout, at other times skeptical and irascible, Wills asks in a loud voice the sort of questions we might be embarrassed to admit we have asked ourselves!
In the course of six conversations we will engage Wills’ passionate confession, connect it more deeply to the Scriptures, and see how the provocative questions and answers he comes up with might help us all come to a deeper knowledge of the God who rejoices to live in our hearts, but will not be kept in a box. On the way we will also consider a few powerful examples of literature, music and film that will expand on Wills’ inquiry and perhaps open the way for our own encounter with the Lord of the Emmaus Road.
Books are available for sale in the office at the cost of $11. Childcare and a light lunch will be available throughout the course.
All classes begin at 11:55 a.m. in the back classroom.
September 16th - Introduction: The Hidden Years of Jesus, and the Beginning of Jesus’ Work
September 23rd -Jesus Against Religion
September 30th - Jesus and the Reign of Heaven
October 7th - No Class (Columbus Day Weekend)
October 14th - The Descent into Hell and the Death of God
October 21st - Jesus and the Life of God
October 28th - Conclusion: Joining Jesus on the Emmaus Road |

Baptismal Font Rear Wall Commission for Artwork The Church of the Redeemer, an Episcopal parish in Chestnut Hill, MA, seeks proposals for a work of art to decorate the rear wall of the church above the existing baptismal font and below the existing stained glass window depicting the Transfiguration. The Gothic-style stone church was designed by Henry Vaughan and built in 1915. The marble baptismal font was designed by Ralph Adams Cram. The church’s decoration also includes a fine series of stained glass windows by Wilbur Herbert Burnham and Charles Eamer Kempe. There is a carved wooden reredos on the front wall of the church. The back wall is 29.5 feet wide and the space available for the artwork is approximately 14 to 20 feet wide and 8 to 9 feet high. Non-acoustically sensitive materials (stone, glass, wood, metal, ceramic, enamel, paint) are desirable. It is hoped that the depiction of all ages, including children, might be included in the final work. Artists nationwide are encouraged to apply. For additional information about the site and budget, which is inclusive of all artist’s fees, materials, fabrication, shipping, insurance, and installation, please contact Suzy Westcott, the Senior Warden. Email: suzywestcott@hotmail.com, Telephone: 617-566-7679, ext. 12, Fax: 617-566-6678 Deadline: September 10, 2007 Pictures of the church and site are available on the parish's website www.redeemerchestnuthill.org |

REDEEMER CAFÉ Ever go to Starbucks for “the coffee experience” before or after church on Sunday? Would you like to have that same authentic experience right at Redeemer? Where you and other friends can relax from the strains of daily life, build bonds of Christian fellowship and be filled with a life-giving spirit that grounds you as you prepare for the week ahead? We’re planning to begin a Redeemer Café this September. We need individuals or families to sign-up as Café Hosts for one Sunday per quarter. Each Sunday, the host would help provide café food and oversee the Café. The church and other support people will provide (illy) coffee, round coffee tables and other supplies. If you or someone you know is interested in being a Café Host, please contact Erik Britt-Webb at 617-899-6023 or erik@britt-webb.net. |
