Church Service League

Invitation for Parishioners

Luncheon for Christmas Market and Auction

Join us and celebrate to congratulate this year’s Christmas Market and Auction volunteers and to welcome those who might want to participate in next year’s event.

All parishioners are cordially invited to a thank you luncheon for the hardworking and dedicated volunteers who put together this year’s Market and Auction.   And, all parishioners who want to learn more about the 2007 Market and Auction are warmly invited.

The luncheon is an annual event, a time that the Church Service League sets aside to show appreciation for all the people who have supported us and to think about the upcoming year.  It is a time of joy and fellowship for the successes we have been so generously given to further the work of Christ within and beyond the parish,  and for the many efforts of all those who make these successes possible.  It is a time of generating possibilities and welcoming newcomers who might want to know more of what we do.

This year’s luncheon will be held at the home of Charlotte Kline, 340 Hammond St., Chestnut Hill (across the street from the Church) on Monday February 5th, 2007.  We will meet at 11 am for a short meeting with luncheon to follow.

RSVP  (for planning purposes) to janebmetcalf@comcast.net or use the sign up sheet on the table outside the rector’s office at the Church.

Join us if you can.  We would most enjoy having you there.

Caring for the Generations:

Strengthening the family

through the middle and end of life.

******Please note change of dates******

How can we best care for the senior members of our families?  How can we support those in mid-life who are often the primary caregivers for those nearing the end of life?  How can we minimize the burden of decision-making for our adult children?  And how can we leave behind us a lasting legacy for our church and our community?

These and other questions will be explored in a two-part series in January and February.

Sunday, January 28 following the 10:30 am service:

We’ll explore the graces and challenges of growing old, the importance of dignity, activity, and independence, as well as the difficulties in helping people negotiate the hurdles near the end of life.  And we will look at ways of helping caregivers who are in midlife, often still raising children of their own.

Sunday, February 11 following the 10:30 am service:

Setting the house in order.  We will talk about how to talk about death and dying within our families, and consider instruments such as advance directives and living wills, and other ways of easing the burden for those closest to us.  We will also cover advance funeral arrangements, including details about the burial rites of the Church.

Your help is needed

A woman with a four-month old foster child has come to us with a need for crib sheets, a baby swing, and pampers for an 18-lb. baby.  Please notify the office if you are able to help.  Your assistance will be most appreciated.
