What should I pledge? |
||
The question of how much to pledge is one that each parishioner must answer on his or her own. Scripture is quite clear. In the Bible we are called on to tithe, which means to give one tenth of our income to the Church. Forgetting for a moment if the tithe should be measured on pre-tax or after-tax income, some would argue that this is a reasonable goal since what it really says is that we get to keep 90% of what we make for ourselves! Another way to think about how much you should pledge might be to sit back and think about what you did this past summer. If a vacation is intended to recharge us physically, then Church is a way to recharge ourselves spiritually. Both are important. Does your pledge to the Redeemer reflect the appropriate fiscal balance between these two expenditures? In fact, the answer to how much to pledge is really quite simple. Just increase your pledge until it feels good! Just increase your pledge until you can look at yourself in the mirror and know that you have done the right thing. Just increase your pledge until you can sit in a pew and know that you have done your part to pay for the inspiring message, the beautiful music, the stately building, and (someday?) new pew cushions! Contributing your share will give you a true sense of membership in the Church. You will know that your pledge really reflects the blessings that God has bestowed upon you and your family. Your increased pledge will give you that sense of inner comfort and peace that comes from knowing that you have done more than your share to carry the burdens of the parish. We have all been fortunate to receive so many blessings in so many aspects of our lives. Please help by sharing just a small portion of what you have been provided in your pledge for the 2006 Stewardship Campaign “Building on Our Foundation”. Please help us make Stewardship successful. Make a pledge to support the Redeemer. |
