Music at The Church of the Redeemer |
The Church of the Redeemer is a parish of the Episcopal Church, which exists to bring people to Christ, and to bring Christ to all people, through worship, fellowship, education and service. Music plays an important role within the parish, with the acclaimed choirs singing at the 10:30am services of worship, as well as several evensongs and other special occasions throughout the academic year.
The choirs’ repertory is drawn from the “English Cathedral Tradition”, with choral anthems sung at the offertory and at communion. The psalms are most usually sung to traditional Anglican Chant by the choirs (except during Lent when the men of the choir chant the psalms to plainsong), and congregational settings of the Ordinary are drawn from The Hymnal 1982, and Missa Sine Nomine, composed by Peter Jewkes (b. 1956). Choral settings of the Ordinary are sung by the Chamber Choir on the second Sunday of the month.
