Sunday School

Sunday School at the Redeemer starts with Children’s Chapel at 9:45 am in the Old Parish House. After chapel, children go to their respective classrooms for Bible Study, discussion, games, and snack. We use the Godly Play curriculum for ages 3-8 years and a Biblically-based curriculum for grades 4-7. Childcare is provided downstairs from 9:00 am until 11:30 am.
Each class consists of two grades together: 3 & 4-year olds, K/1st, 2nd/3rd, 4th/5th, 6th/7th. For more information, click on the

Our Sunday School enrollment is unusually large for an Episcopal church, and this program is successful because of a dedicated and creative group of volunteer teachers, Youth Assistants, and the Sunday School committee members. To find out more about Sunday School leadership, click here.
Childcare is available almost every Sunday of the year for infants to 4-year-olds. Nursery care is available most Sundays of the year for children under three years of age.
Mission Statement
The Redeemer children's education program seeks to provide children with a foundation in the Christian faith in a nurturing environment of acceptance, love and open inquiry. Through a program of education, worship, music, outreach and fellowship, children will be encouraged to develop their Christian beliefs and values and to grow in their relationship with God and with each other.
The specific elements of the children's education program at the Redeemer, adjusted appropriately for each age level, include:
- Study of the Bible stories of the Old and New Testament.
- Familiarization with the basic components of worship in the Episcopal Church through weekly worship in a children's chapel program.
- Lending of guidance and assistance to teachers, in hopes of broadening their Christian views and in an effort to help them become more effective Christian leaders.
Other Formation Opportunities
In addition to participation in regular Sunday School classes, there are many opportunities for children and youth to be formed by Christian experiences, Confirmation class for those in 8th grade and above, and serving as an Acolyte in the 5th through 7th grades and as a Server in the 8th through 12th grades.
Another opportunity for children and youth include the Children’s Choir held at 9:10 on Sunday mornings.
As a Sunday School program, we regularly do community service projects such as yard cleanups, food drives, caroling at homes for the elderly and many more activities.
All these programs work together to provide a structure for children to grow into spiritually and ethically responsible adults. The children will grow through Biblical knowledge, personal spiritual development, community involvement, service, fellowship and commitment.
We welcome parents and others to get involved in making this program the best it can be.
Communion Prep Class
In the Episcopal Church, all baptized persons, of whatever age, are welcomed (and encouraged!) to receive Communion. Any child old enough to hold out his/her hands will be served at the altar rail, and parents are urged to let their children know that they are welcomed.
However, to deepen our children’s appreciation of the Sacrament, we offer a session for students in the 2nd and 3rd grades to learn more about Communion as a sacrament and a practice.
Communion Prep is a one-time class held every other year in the fall. The next class will be held in November of 2013. Shortly after the class, children honor their newfound knowledge of Communion with a celebration during the service on All Saints’ Sunday in November.
Your child must be registered for Sunday School in that fall so we know they are of age. Children registered in Sunday School will automatically receive an invitation.
