Steve Mead, Jr.

Committee and Leadership Involvement:

Member of the Executive Committee, Finance Policy and Personnel Committee, Investment Committee, Nominating Committee, Stewardship Super-Shepherd

 

Biography:  Steve has four children, ages 17-28, all confirmed at the Redeemer.  In his time at the Redeemer, he has filled the roles of Treasurer, Investment Committee Chair, Vestry Member and Church School teacher.  Steve has worked in the Investment Management business for most of his career, including the last 22 years as an analyst and portfolio manager at Anchor Capital Advisors, LLC. 

       Additionally, he serves on the Investment Committee of the Boston Episcopal Society, the Board of Overseers of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston and on the Board of the Charles River Conservancy Skatepark.  In addition to tennis, squash, sailing and getting into the mountains, Steve enjoys in particular the time he spends working in the garden with his wife Tish.  

 

 

 

Lucinda Doran Stern

Biography:  Lucinda Doran Stern, Junior Warden, joined the Redeemer in 1990 when she moved to Chestnut Hill from NYC.  She immediately became active in parish life as Lay Minister, Lector, Choir and Stewardship Committee Member and later served on the Search Committee calling our Rector and as Clerk of the Vestry.  Professionally, Lucinda is an interim executive and board director who helps CEOs, boards and their companies through complex, difficult and pivotal transitions.

      She has extensive line management, board and cross functional leadership experience and deep expertise in organization and people strategy and development, business ethics and governance and communications. Lucinda, who hails from Oregon, earned her Ph.D. from NYU in Strategy, Management & Organizational Behavior and is a licensed Industrial/ Organizational Psychologist.  She happily spends her down time playing tennis and music, attending concerts and theatre and with her husband, Bob, her friends and her cat, Motley J. Crew.


Nina Moriarty

Biography:  Nina Moriarty has been a member of the parish of the Church of the Redeemer since moving to Chestnut Hill from Cambridge in 1977.  She has served and chaired the Sunday School Committee and the Church Service League and Co-chaired the Christmas Market.  She has taught several Sunday school classes, including the Confirmation class.  She served on the Search Committee and has been a Diocesan Delegate.  A member of the Altar Guild since 1993, she has been its treasurer since 2000.

      By profession, Nina teaches Art History.  Her research lies in the field of later medieval manuscript illumination and she has a special interest in Christian art.  She is a trustee of the College of the Atlantic, a governor of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and a visitor to the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Museum of Fine Arts.  She has been a trustee of the Boston Theological Institute, the National Cathedral Association of the Washington National Cathedral, Concord Academy and the Park School. 

     Nina is married to Marshall Moriarty, a retired partner of the law firm Ropes and Gray.  Their greatest pleasure is time spent with their children and grandchildren.  In addition, Nina enjoys gardening, reading and cooking.

 

Dick Tucker

Biography:  Dick Tucker served on the Church School Committee,  the Finance Policy & Personnel Committee, and was a Stewardship neighborhood captain before serving on the Vestry. He became Treasurer in 2008.
       After 40+ years in investment management firms in Boston, he retired in 2004. He now provides financial counseling to a few clients on a part-time basis and is actively involved in the Chestnut Hill Association in addition to his efforts at the church.
       He and Lisa are the proud parents of Toph (a sophomore at Bowdoin) and Willy (a senior at Beaver Country Day School), as well as Annie, a freelance editor in San Francisco, and John, a consultant with IDEO in New York City.
       The Tuckers live just down the street from the Redeemer on Woodman Road with Rosie, a golden retriever. Dick can be found occasionally looking for golf balls on a nearby course, and he sometimes finds them.


Jeff Hawkins

Biography: Jeff and Christa Hawkins have been active members at the Redeemer since moving to Chestnut Hill in 2004. He has served on the audit committee and is currently the Assistant Treasurer.

     Jeff is a Managing Director and the Chief Operating Officer of Sankaty Advisors, the credit arm of Bain Capital. He is active in many other organizations and currently serves as the President of the Board of the Chestnut Hill School and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of the Boston Public Library Foundation. Jeff has a JD from Harvard Law School and majored in Soviet Studies at Trinity College. Jeff and Christa have four children, Elaina (7), Elise (5), Brooks (3) and Scarlett (6 months).  

 

Philip Bianchi

Biography:  I have been a member of the Church of the Redeemer for over 30 years. I have worked in the Investment Management business during this time, most recently as a financial advisor at SmithBarney. I am married to Bunny and have two grown daughters. I am a graduate of St. Paul’s School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I have been an usher at the Redeemer for several years and am honored to serve on the Vestry.

Biography:   I have been a member of the Church of the Redeemer for 20 years.  I am married to Tom Bullitt and we have three children, Ben, age 23, Lily age 20, and John age 18.   I have a Masters in Social Work and worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital many moons ago.  I stumbled onto the stay-at-home-Mom path after Ben was born and never left it. 

       The Redeemer Church School has always held a special place in my heart.  It is what drew me to this church.  Over the years I have taught Sunday school, served on the school committee and acted as co-Director of the Church School.   All three of my children went to Church School here and all three were Youth Assistants.  I have just recently joined the Altar Guild and am involved with our sister church, St. Stephen’s, as a member of their secondary school counseling team. 

 

Douglas Chope

Biography:  Douglas is married to Teresa and has three children, Clasby (11), Ford (9) and Sallie (7), all of whom are very active at Redeemer including participating in the Church School program and Children’ Choir.
      Douglas is a Director of Product Management at MicroStrategy with responsibility for future software product direction. Douglas is active with Tenacity, an organization to improve the scholastic, character and physical development of urban youth, and serves on the board at the Brookline Music School, among other community involvement.
      Douglas’ passion is coaching his children’s sports including soccer and baseball. Additionally, Douglas enjoys travel, reading, tennis and competitive running.

Biography:  Gordon and his wife, Wendy, joined the Redeemer in 2006 when they moved from the South End to Chestnut Hill.  They have a daughter and a son, Caroline age 6, and Gordie age 3.  Gordon grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Denison University in Ohio.  He and Wendy met as classmates in business school at Vanderbilt University graduating in 1995. 

     Gordon has spent his career in the investment banking/management industry working for 13 years at Canaccord Adams and for the past two years as an equity analyst with Turner Investment Partners.  He enjoys fishing, tennis, golf, and squash.

Biography:  Raised in the Catholic Church, Mary became a member of the Episcopal Church 25 years ago and has been a member of the Church of the Redeemer for four years. Twice she has served as Chair of the Auction committee and currently serves on the Church School Committee and is the Co-Chair of Fellowship. She attends the Redeemer with her husband William Ellis and their two boys, Corson and Simon.  When Mary takes a break from her work with the Redeemer and her volunteer commitments at her children’s elementary school, she is most often found reading, walking, biking with her children or hosting casual “family” dinners for friends and family.

Biography:  Margot has been married to her husband John for 41 years. She has three children: John, Charlotte, and Sam. She has been a member of the Redeemer for more than 50 years, in which time she has Co-Chaired Sunday School, as well as the Church Fair in its second year. She has also served on a long-range planning committee and is a Lay Eucharistic Minister at the Holy Eucharist several times a year.  

         Her other interests include gardening, cooking, travel, sports, and, in particular, her three grandchildren who are all living nearby.

Biography: Michael, our three children and I joined the Redeemer after moving to West Newton from a five-year adventure in London. The kids, Michael (17), Lyle (16) and Julia (13) have all served as acolytes and servers and have been (or are being) confirmed at the Redeemer. I have served as a both on the Greens Committee and as the Vendor Chair of the Christmas Market.

     I earned a BA and an MBA from the University of Virginia, and worked in finance at Bankers Trust and Aldrich Eastman and Waltch before taking some time off to raise our children. “Some time off” shockingly turned into sixteen years. I volunteer at my children’s schools in many ways, and set up and institutionalized an annual service learning day for the lower school at Winsor. I am a project manager for Community Consulting Teams, and a landscape designer trained at the Radcliffe/ Harvard/ BAC program. I play tennis, ride horses when I get the chance, and am a certified vinyasa yoga teacher. I grew up in Atlanta and Virginia, and go back to warm up as often as possible.


John Marenghi

Biography:  John and Cathy joined the Redeemer 20 years ago (1989) after their marriage at St. Peter’s Church, Osterville. They have two daughters: Laura (19) and Julia (12); both were baptized at the Redeemer. Laura was confirmed here and Julia is “on deck”. Their son, John Putnam ‘JP’ died as an infant and is at rest in the Redeemer Memorial Garden.

      This is John’s 2nd tour on Vestry. He has served on: Stewardship (2 years as Co-Chair), Finance Policy & Personnel, Nominating, Fellowship/Foyers. He also always looks forward to seeing fellow parishioners as an Usher/ Greeter at Mass. During Christmas Market, he has enjoyed various experiences as an Auctioneer, Wine Steward, Tree Salesman - when Cathy was Co-Chair of the Christmas Market, John was appointed Executive Director in charge of folding chairs. He is particularly grateful for the opportunity to teach in the Church School and to be part of our mission work for St Stephen’s along with daughter Laura who has also been on missions to Cuba and New Orleans.

     John is an entrepreneur in healthcare/life sciences and high technology and he founded Marenghi & Company, a private investment and advisory network. John began his 30 + year career as an executive with Baxter International and Millipore. He later became CEO/Director of several new ventures including: Epic Therapeutics (acquired by Baxter) and Thermedics Detection (acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific). John also serves on non-profit boards including: Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School; Boston University Photonics Center; Hospice of the North Shore.

      John received an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS from Boston College. He enjoys sailing and triathlons.

 

Katie McEachern

Publicity Chair for the Christmas Market, Church School teacher, member of the Church Service League, Stewardship Captain and current member of the Vestry.  I have also been involved with the Foyers dinner group, and many fellowship events.  

 

Biography:  I have been a member of the Church of the Redeemer for ten years and have loved every minute of it.  I am married to Duncan McEachern and have two children, John and Sarah. We live in West Newton and are involved in various ways at our children’s neighborhood school.  My children sing in the Redeemer Children’s Choir which they enjoy and they have been involved with many of the children’s fellowship programs that have been offered, including children’s liturgies, family events and Children’s Chapel.  

        Professionally, I run marketing operations for Progress Software Corporation in Bedford, MA.  My hobbies include playing the piano and reading, as well as skiing, swimming, and playing tennis.   I am honored to serve on the Vestry.

Biography:  John, his wife Elliot, and their two children, William and James, moved to Brookline from New York City in March of 2001, joining the Church of the Redeemer shortly thereafter.  At the Redeemer, John has served on the Adult Education Committee, has participated with other parishioners in several self-directed Bible studies, and continues to serve as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.  After receiving his J.D. from Harvard, John and Elliot moved back to New York City, where she joined the staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and he worked first as lawyer at the firm of Sullivan & Cromwell and thereafter as a banker at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.

      Moving to Boston when Elliot accepted new responsibilities at the Museum of Fine Arts, John ultimately found his professional niche here in Boston at Pelican Investment Management, which provides wealthy families with comprehensive wealth advisory services.  Music and art are at the core of his foundation.  In his youth, John trained to be a concert pianist, is a graduate of the Conservatoire Royal in Brussels, Belgium, and received his Master’s Degree in Art History from Yale. In Boston, he has been active as an overseer at the New England Conservatory of Music and is the Treasurer of the Conservatory Lab Charter Lab School Foundation, which supports a pilot project to integrate music into elementary education serving greater Boston.  John and Elliot enjoy spending as much time as possible with both of their sons pursuing their interests in the arts, athletics, and the community.

Biography: Chip and his wife Maisie have been members of the Church of the Redeemer for over 8 years.  They live in Chestnut Hill with their three daughters, Charlotte (11), Serena (9) and Eliza (5).  Chip has worked in the investment field for over 15 years and is currently an investment manager with BNY Mellon working in downtown Boston.

      A former college tennis and hockey player, Chip enjoys tennis, golf, hockey and platform tennis.  He is currently coaching his daughter's squirt hockey team.  He received a BA in economics from Middlebury College and his MBA from Vanderbilt University.

Biography: Amy and her husband Rick have two daughters, Katie, 13, and Molly, 9.  Amy has served as co-chair of the Redeemer Christmas Market and is First Vice President of the Church Service League. Since leaving full-time law practice five years ago, Amy has also been an active volunteer at her daughters' schools and has done pro bono legal work for Jane Doe, Inc.         

        Currently, Amy is volunteering at the Boston College Legal Assistance Bureau.  In her spare time, Amy enjoys gardening and tennis.

Michael Aylward

Biography:   Michael F. Aylward married into the Redeemer in 1990 when he wed Deborah Ritter, whose family had been lifelong members of the parish.  He was initially drawn into the Redeemer’s Outreach ministry and spent more than a decade as the chair of the Outreach Committee.  During this time, he also spent a term on the Vestry and performed the vital role of selling and delivering Christmas trees at the Redeemer’s annual Christmas Market.  More recently, he has been called back to service as Chair of the Building Committee.

       Michael is a lawyer by trade and a chef and gardener by avocation.   He was born in Hong Kong to Foreign Service parents and spent most of his life in Washington, D.C.  Following graduation from Dartmouth he worked on Capitol Hill for a U.S. Senator and acquired a life-long interest in politics and environmental affairs.   For the past three decades, he has advised insurance company on liability risk issues and has represented carriers around the country in litigation over their contractual obligations.

Biography:    I have been a member of the Redeemer for 21 years - I’ve worked in the Church School, on the Christmas Market, and as a Lector.  I am currently a Diocesan Delegate and on the Altar Guild. 

       My three children, Charlotte, Margaret, and James were all baptized here, participated in Church School, and proudly sang in the choir for many years.  I'm a graduate of Hamilton College, had my first career in Advertising in NYC and Boston, my second career at home with my kids, and am now in my third life, pursuing a career in Social Work.  In May of this year, I'll receive my Masters in Social Work from Boston College, and I've been pleased to work as a counselor at Dedham High School.  I am currently a counselor at Westwood Lodge Psychiatric Hospital working with children and teens. 

        Best decision ever:  To join the Redeemer Mission Trip to Uganda last summer - Life Changing - in all the best possible ways!

 


Arthur Pfaelzer

Biography:  I am very pleased to be selected to be one of the Diocesan delegates in 2010. I attended as a substitute delegate at the convention in 2009 at Trinity Church in Boston and found it very educational.

      I grew up in Brookline and attended Trinity Church with my family for many years. My father was assistant Treasurer during the time when the Reverend Theodore Ferris was Rector.  I was married to my first wife, Francoise, at the Church of the Redeemer in 1963.  We had two children Christine and Diane.  They are now both married and now I am blessed with five grandchildren by Christine. After Francoise passed away I met Carol Post and we were married in 1998, also in the Church of the Redeemer.

    I started my own electronic manufacturing company, Intronics, in 1965, and recently sold it this past year. Currently I am ‘retired’ but looking for new opportunities in electronics. My present task at home is taking care of our four dachshunds and trying to learn how to play the violin-a somewhat daunting task.  

 

Starr Peteet

Biography: Starr joined the Redeemer in 2007 with her husband Josh. Both attended other Episcopal Churches around Boston as children, but they fell in love with the Redeemer from the moment they first visited. Her favorite involvement at the Redeemer has been helping teach last year’s Confirmation class.

      In 2002, Starr helped found Boston Trinity Academy, a faith-based urban independent school designed to be as rigorous as the best prep schools while also accessible to students from every socioeconomic background. Starr also serves as a trustee for Noble and Greenough School and Camp Jabberwocky on Martha’s Vineyard.

  

 

 


 

David Walker

Biography:  David, his wife Lisa, and their daughters Nina (18) and Electra (13) have been coming to the Redeemer since 2002. David has served as a neighborhood Stewardship Captain since 2008. Lisa has previously served as co-chair of the Christmas Market auction.

          David has spent 26 years in the investment management business and he is currently a portfolio manager with Cambridge Trust. David is President of the board of trustees of the Vincent Memorial Hospital and he has previously held leadership positions with the Long Island, New York chapter of The Nature Conservancy and the Alumni Association of the Hotchkiss School. 

         In his free time, David enjoys hiking, reading, fishing and golf.  

 

George Raine

Biography:   George Raine has been a member of the parish since 2007 and has served as a shepherd for the stewardship campaign. 

       George is a partner at the law firm Ropes & Gray, where he specializes in securities law and investment management regulatory matters. He received his undergraduate degree in history and his law degree from Yale, as well as a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the Humboldt Universitaet in Berlin.

         He is married to Fernande Raine, and together they are doing their best to raise four daughters, Eleanor, Charlotte, Martha, and Louisa (Lulu), aged six years down to six months. German is the official language of the Raine household, though often resolve falls short of intention in avoiding the vernacular.

         In what passes for spare time, George enjoys (though does not excel in) squash, rowing, cycling, classical clarinet, and recreational philology.
